The ACC once again has its marquee Labor Day Opener. This year it will once again feature the Seminoles of Florida State and a new conference member in the Pittsburgh Panthers. This will be the first ACC conference game for the Panthers and they were done no favors by getting to play defending conference champs Florida State.
Labor Day match ups have killed the ratings for the conference but have pretty much sucked when it came to results on the field.
Past Labor Day Matchups
2005: FSU 10 Miami 7
2006: FSU 13 Miami 10
2007: FSU 18 Clemson 24
2009: FSU 34 Miami 38
2011: Miami 32 Maryland 34
As you can see Miami and Florida State are the face of the conference as far as football goes and will probably always be involved in a Labor Day game. The television ratings love those two programs. Pitt, a nine time national champion, is located in a big city looking for a way to rejuvenate its program. And, a win over the Seminoles might do just that.
Florida State vs. Boise State
The Seminoles and Broncos have inked a deal to play a home and home in 2019-2020. One in Tallahassee FL and the other in Boise, Idaho. The scheduling process for the Seminoles is getting a lot better now and they have Oklahoma State at Jerry World on the schedule also.
ACC’s featured out-of-conference Matchups
There are many early season matchups that can gain respect for the ACC and these include:
Clemson vs. Georgia
North Carolina vs. South Carolina
Miami vs. Florida
UVA vs. Oregon
VT vs. Alabama
Pitt vs. Notre Dame
The beginning of the season could decide what kind of respect the conference will get.
