Tonight another FCS team pulled off another upset over a FBS team. This is not just your ordinary FCS team, this is your current two time defending national champion. Tonight North Dakota State upset Kansas State which was almost expected tonight. Kansas State is coming off of a Big 12 championship, having a Heisman finalist, Fiesta Bowl appearance, and many other accomplishments. To bad that was all last year in 2012 and this years Bill Snyder’s team was basically a whole new team. There was no Collin Klein or Arthur Brown in purple tonight and they were definitely missed. Now with the win over last years Big 12 champions, where do the Bison go from here?
- Tonight was the fourth straight win over a FBS opponent in the past four years (Kansas State, Minnesota, Kansas, Colorado State)
- NDSU earned $350,000 by just showing up, and the win was just a bonus
From last seasons team North Dakota State returned 18 out of 22 starters so it was not even that big of a surprise they beat a young Kansas State team. Not to mention nine of those returning starters made the All-conference team in 2012. The Wildcats just could not stop the Bison offense in the second half tonight. NDSU definitely showed they were the better team by having a nine minute winning drive in the fourth quarter. Sam Ojuri could not be stopped tonight running all over Kansas State with 126 yards rushing, averaging 12.6 yards a carry. North Dakota State might want to give him the ball more to ensure their three peat.
The question is, who is going to stop the Bison? Well check out this article I wrote earlier in the summer, of who could possibly get in the way. The South Dakota State rivalry game this year will be one of the best FCS matchups this year, and I am excited for it!
