Week Two Rewind

This week of college football was another one for the books. We saw a rivalry game probably played for last time for a long time, another rivalry game coming to a close soon, and more upsets. Many teams are starting to distinguish their dominance over other teams, and the distance is separating. Not to mention we also had a pivotal SEC East matchup. So let us here at fifthquarter give you our week two rewind.

#2 Oregon 59 Virginia 10

One week after a big win against BYU, Virginia had momentum hosting one of the best teams in the nation. That momentum was squashed in the first quarter. Oregon Quarterback Marcus Mariota rushed for a 71 yard touchdown, right up the middle within two minutes of the first quarter. The Quack Attack would not look back from there as they had 557 Total offensive yards.

#3 Ohio State 42 vs. San Diego State 7

Ohio State continues to blow through its soft schedule and did so by Kenny Guiton the backup senior quarterback. Heisman Trophy candidate Braxton Miller had to leave the game earlier with a crushing hit, and his helmet popping off. The schedule gets a little tougher next week with the Cal Bears.

#4. Clemson 52 vs. South Carolina State 13

After a huge win against Georgia last week, there really was not much to see this week. With the easy week many young tigers got experience in the blowout win over FCS opponent South Carolina State.

#5 Stanford 34 San Jose State 13

This California instate showdon was more competitive than the score indicates. Entering into the fourth quarter it was only a two possession game, and many forget that San Jose State finished ranked last season. Stanford quarterback Kevin Hogan looked sharp throwing two touchdowns, and no interceptions.

#6 South Carolina 30 vs. #11 Georgia 41

This was the pivotal matchup for the SEC East standings, and the past three years one of these two have made it to Atlanta. Todd Gurley was a man amongst boys and Aaron Murray played a mistake free game. The one turnover and no converting on the 4th and 1 late in the game cost South Carolina this game. Both teams are 1-1 and neither are out for the national championship picture just yet.

#9 LSU 52 vs. UAB 17

The Tigers of LSU have evened up the all time series with the Blazers at 1-1 with this dominating win. Zach Mettenberger led the charge with a 5 TD performance.

#12 UF 16 vs. Miami 21

Turnovers and a lack of red zone production killed the Florida Gators in this game. A first tier Gators defense will seem to go to waste this year because of a lack luster offense. Jeff Driskel was picked off twice, and the Hurricanes forced a total of five turnovers. The late fourth quarter touchdown by Duke Jonson sealed the game and maybe the rivalry.

#14 Michigan 41 vs. #17 Notre Dame 30

Devin Gardner wearing No. 98 to honor Michigan great Tom Harmon was a rare sight to see. The Michigan Wolverines offense went up and down the field on the Irish all night. If it wasn’t for a Devin Gardner pick six this game would not have even of been close.
